  • December 2007
    • A list of links and information has been added to OASIS about the important connections between New York City and its drinking water supply throughout the Hudson Valley. The compilation and display of this information was funded, in part, by the Watershed Agricultural Council with the support of the USDA Forest Service.
    • This page can also be accessed whenever anyone searches for a specific NYC parcel, street address, or Community Board via OASIS (you’ll see an entry below the map that says “Learn more about NYC's drinking water: NYC Watershed Resources”).
    • Eventually we will add links to Google Maps related to the watershed, and also integrate PDF maps of self-guided watershed tours that the Watershed Agricultural Council is creating.

  • September 2007
    • OASIS was featured in a New York Times article about using online sites to research real estate in New York (9/2/07). Though this isn't the primary focus of OASIS, the rich level of detail about NYC properties on OASIS makes it a terrific online resource for apartment hunters as well as open space advocates.

    • The Spring 2007 issue of the Harbor Estuary Program's "Tidal Exchange" newsletter features a cover story about priority habitat sites mapped on OASIS.

  • April 2007
    • Maps of coastal storm impact zones have been added to OASIS. We are beginning to include more information about the region's waterfront, and this is one of the latest data sets that we've added. You can find out if your property or nearby park, community garden, beach, or boating site might be impacted. More details about the data are available here.
      • Several blogs featured the coastal zone maps:
        • Gothamist highlighted this as its Map of the Day (April 18, 2007), and included some links that put the storm zones in context: a UN panel about rising sea levels and Mayor Bloomberg’s recent radio address about the city’s “coastal” locale making it more susceptible to hazards like this; and
        • the Flatbush Gardener notes that "OASIS recently added this layer to their already invaluable Web mapping service."
    • This month we also began updating maps of waterfront access locations throughout New York City and northern New Jersey (in collaboration with NY/NJ Baykeeper and Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance, supported by the US EPA Harbor Estuary Program).
  • March 2007
    • The latest publicly available property data for New York City has been added to OASIS. The data is now current as of Oct-Nov 2006, from the "06C" release of the NYC Dept. of City Planning's "MapPLUTO" file (see DCP's website) for more information.
  • December 2006 & January 2007. Several news items about the new aerial photos on OASIS:
    • The New York Times ran a terrific color photo spread on page 2 of the Metro section (12/26/06)
    • Blogs that featured the photos include:
      • LICNYC notes that "OASIS NYC has a great satellite image and mapping toolkit that is sort of a Google/Yahoo maps a la New York." The site highlights a great example of our "then and now" photos of the area around the Citibank building, even revealing that a portion of a nearby street was closed off between '96 and '04 and converted to parking. Great catch on the details!
      • the Daily Politics blog;
      • set speed/one hanson place noted that OASIS is a "NYC community resource site that has tons of aerial maps, among other things."
  • November 2006
    • New aerial photography from USGS -- you can compare aerial photos from 1996 with new photos from 2004, as well as infrared imagery from 2001. Read more here.
  • October 2006
    • More blog entries -- IMBY in Brooklyn's south Slope links to OASIS with an entry asking "Who will save the trees?" in response to a construction crew that "slashed through old growth tree limbs making room for the drilling rigs tower".
  • September 2006
    • Special search page for Harbor Estuary Program habitat site maps on OASIS.
    • Updated property data from 2005 (the latest publicly available information from NYC Planning Department).
  • July 2006: On a sweltering summer day, several blogs feature the tree-cover map at OASIS as "map of the day".
    • Gothamist notes: “On a day like this, you're probably wondering where you can find some sweet, sweet shade. The NYC OASIS map has the answer -- it shows all the trees in the five boroughs, including the ones in the backyards and on the streets.”
    • Cribstown provides some more context.
    • Gowanus Lounge notes the "tree gap" between Park Slope and Williamsburg.
